NOTE THE NEW DATES for the

Annual Members Show “Deck The Walls”

It’s time for our Annual Members Festive Sale – Open to all members, no jurying, just drop off your small, affordably priced artwork (suitable as gifts) on Tuesday November 6th between 1 & 7pm  (ONE DROP-OFF ONLY). Each piece must arrive ready to be hung and be labeled with (1) your name, (2) title of painting, (3) medium and (4) price. Also it’s a good idea to attach a brief statement about yourself and your contact information to the back of your work.

Opening reception November 10, 2-5 pm.  Bring your friends! This is a fun show with LOTS of artwork in every style.

Deck the Walls Art Pick-up and PARTY

Saturday Dec. 15th,    1- 5pm

This is the day to pick up your work. Please come enjoy some holiday cheer with your fellow artists, whether you have work to pick up or not.

We’ll supply the wine and beverages. If anyone is interested in arranging a bake exchange/sale amongst our members this would be a great opportunity!

Are you interested in getting some objective opinions on your artwork from other artists? Whether you are trying out a new artistic direction and are looking for a little feedback or would just like to view your artwork through a fresh set of eyes, the Friday Night Critique is for you!

Each artist brings along up to 8 works, the artists one by one show their work, then the group as a whole discusses the work and gives constructive feed-back. The critiques are run in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere using a standard format (written guidelines are provided). We think of this as a fun, social evening.  BYOB if you wish.

Fee: $3 includes coffee/tea and snack.

Open Studio & Drop-In Classes

Uninstructed Life Drawing /Painting

(usually a nude model but please let us know if you want to do portraiture or use a costumed model )

Thursday 7:00 - 9:30pm

Most weeks, but check with the Gallery

Fee: $15 per session or $30 for three sessions in advance (coffee/tea and snack included).

Acrylic Painting with Victoria Pearce

Thursday 1 - 4pm 

Continues until November 1st.

Group instruction and individual help for all levels by experienced painter Victoria Pearce.

Fee: $20 per drop-in session (coffee/tea and snack included)

Watercolour Painting with Sue Gunter

Tuesday 7 - 9pm 

Continues until November 6th

For beginning artists. Learn the rules and techniques.

2008 Exhibition Season at the Sunrise Gallery

Bert Wreford, Michael Gallant and Basant Sharma are heading up our first exhibition of 2008...

Works in Three Dimensions

Feb. 2nd –  24th 2008

We are looking for interesting group work to round out this show. The Exhibition committee is receptive to a wide range of styles/genres e.g. sculpture, sculptural relief work and installation, texture on or off the wall, hand crafted “art” furniture or decoratively hand painted furniture etc...

Submission deadline for proposals or drop-off of

work for preview:

Tuesday. November 13th 1 – 5pm.

Any works that are dropped off for preview are to be picked up again on Thurs. Nov. 15th 1 -5pm. If you plan to submit jewelry or ceramics you will also need to provide a secure display case with the work. If you are submitting a proposal for installation please include scale drawings and list any specific requirements for power or lighting etc.  If you need us to view the work in your studio please call the Gallery (905-549-5888) to arrange an appointment.

2008 Call For Entry

Starting with a Sculpture/3-D show in February, we have

an interesting line-up of themes and styles for our 2008 shows. As always, members are encouraged to submit work for the Group portion of the shows. Deadlines for group work are as listed at the right together with the themes.

We also have space available in some shows for Solo Exhibitors.  Artists interested in featuring as a Soloist should email submissions@sunrisegallery.ca  or phone 905-549-5888 as soon as possible regarding availability in particular shows.

Submission procedure for Group Shows

1. Before going to the Gallery make sure your work is ready to display e.g. paintings are framed and have a wire securely attached. Number each work and prepare a list showing (i) the number (ii) the title (iii) the medium and (iv) the price. Also bring along an information sheet (see below) and some business cards if you have them.

2. At the Gallery, deliver your art work to the office, then enter the information from your list onto a Group Show application form. You will receive a  receipt.

3. Additional information. Please bring a one page information sheet showing biographical information, contact information and an artist statement, if you wish, and place the sheet in the “Artist’s Statements” binder in the exhibition area. Also place your business cards, if you have any, in the small “photograph album” provided.

4. Selection. Sometimes not all of the works submitted are exhibited due to lack of space, too many similar works, faulty framing or wiring, inability to find a location on the wall where it displays well with the other paintings etc. etc. Difficult decisions like this need to be made by volunteers for every show and we ask that members accept these decisions graciously.
