DOWLING KNIGHTS Painter

About the Artist

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, and a retired high school math teacher, Dowling Knights has resided in the Hamilton area for approximately forty years. He received a bachelor's degree from Mc Master University, a master's degree from The University of Toronto and Certificates of Continuing Education Parts 1,2 and 3 from The Dundas Valley School Of Art. His paintings, which reflect the vibrancy of his native land, are done in several media. They have been well received in galleries and juried exhibitions in Hamilton, Brantford, Mississauga, Etobicoke, Toronto and Georgetown. They may also be found in corporations, as well as private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe.

Artist's Statement

Art is a multi-faceted discipline. In its many forms, the visual arts afford me an opportunity for self-expression, and an emotional release, resulting in a surge of euphoria. They create that unique circumstance where I can communicate with nature. They provide the opportunity to perceive both the mundane and the divine in everyday life.

In my work I endeavour to communicate with the viewer by means of vibrant colour, as well as energetic and rhythmic brush strokes. I see the artist as teacher, historian, inventor, entertainer; and art itself, as life.
