Applications are invited from both established and emerging artists to exhibit either as a solo show or in a group show, or both.

Installations, sculpture, unusual media and abstract art are welcome.

For group shows we try to show work with a common theme.

Applications to curate a show are also welcome, and you should speak to Martin if you are interested in this.

Submission Requirements

Please send your application by email to submissions@sunrisegallery.ca

Please include the following:

  1. Your name and contact information, including: e-mail address, address and phone numbers where you can be reached day and evening.

  2. Up to ten (10) works maximum may be submitted in the form of digital images (jpegs 400 pixels on their longest side) preferably of work you intend to show or examples of earlier work. Each image file should be labeled with: the artists name, title, year, medium, dimensions, and edition number for limited edition prints and photographs. You can e-mail your submission to submissions@sunrisegallery.ca. Your e-mail file size cannot exceed 3MB or our server will reject it.   3. Biographical data should accompany submissions, including such information as place of birth (city and province), education, clear recent exhibition record, publications, awards, and collection listing, both private and public.

  4. Artist Statement (100 words or less).

  5. Space required: (1) Fire place room, (2) Middle Room, (3) Lake view Room or (4) other specified space. Check out our future exhibitions here.

    If you are submitting a proposal for installation please include scale drawings and list any specific requirements for power or lighting etc. a schematic of the gallery is available on our about us page of our web site, just click on the rooms listed under facilities. We also have outdoor spaces available for seasonal installations or weather proof Art and Sculpture.

  6. Preferred Dates for Show. All exhibitions begin with a reception, open to the public, on the first Saturday of the show. All delivery of work is to be on the Tuesday prior to the Saturday of the Opening Reception.

  7. All agreements of sale of works are clearly defined as between the Sunrise Gallery and the artist. If the artist is under exclusive contract with an art dealer or representative, this should be outlined and brought forward at the time of submission to ascertain legalities.

  8. Selected artwork must be matted on acid-free board and where appropriate, framed and wired adequately for weight (D hooks are recommended). Work will be turned away if it does not meet hanging requirements.

Submission Procedure for Members Group Shows:

  1. Before going to the Gallery make sure your work is ready to display e.g. paintings are framed and have a wire securely attached. Attach a label to each work showing (i) artist name and contact info (ii) the title (iii) the medium and (iv) the price, and prepare a list of this same information. Also bring along your cheque book, date book and an information sheet (see below) and some business cards if you have them.

  1. At the Gallery, deliver your art work to the office, then enter the information from your list onto a Group Show application form. Any membership fees in arrears will be asked to be paid at this time. You will also be asked at this time to sign up for required duties during the show. If you prefer not to perform duties, there is a $5/piece fee for submitting work.

  1. Additional information. Please bring a one page information sheet showing biographical information, contact information and an artist statement, if you wish, and place the sheet in the “Artist’s Statements” binder in the exhibition area. Also place your business cards, if you have any, in the “photograph albums” provided.

  1. Selection. Sometimes not all of the works submitted are exhibited due to lack of space, too many similar works, faulty framing or wiring, inability to find a location on the wall where it displays well with the other paintings etc. etc. Difficult decisions like this need to be made by Exhibition Committee volunteers for every show and we ask that members accept these decisions graciously.

  2. Please note the pick-up date and if you can't make it please arrange with a friend to pick-up your unsold artwork at the end of the show. Your fees will be adjusted at the time of pick-up to reflect any sales of work (sold work is subject to a 20% commission).

Exhibition Terms of Agreement:

  1. For Solo Exhibitions it is the Artist's responsibility to deliver the agreed upon artwork in salable condition to the gallery on the Tuesday prior to the opening reception of the show and assist with the set up of the show. The director and other member volunteers will be on hand to oversee and assist with the overall set up of the show. We will provide each artist a price list and a tag for each work to be displayed on the wall. Additional services can be arranged for a small fee.

  2. It is the Solo Artist's responsibility to provide food and other desired beverages for the Opening reception. The gallery will provide all of the needed cutlery and dishes, glasses, napkins, coffee and tea service. All exhibiting artists share in this responsibility.

  3. Gallery Duties: two (2) gallery shifts of time, per month, per room of exhibition space (not including the opening reception which the artist is required to attend) and a membership fee of $35/year or for non-member groups a $400 fee per month per room of exhibition space. Set up and reception attendance are still required. All proposals for group exhibition are still subject to approval of the exhibition committee.

  4. An agreement for Sunrise Gallery to use photos of your work for promotional purposes. The Gallery will prepare an e-mail invitation that you can forward and that we will e-mail show information to our list. Gallery staff will prepare 70 printed fliers, and we can prepare more upon request for an additional fee. We make a set of standard press releases in all local news listings. If we are able to have a writer review the show the artist is asked to be available for an interview usually three weeks prior to the opening.

  5. An agreement that 20% of sales, 25% in the case of credit card sales will go to the Sunrise Gallery to cover the overhead costs for the show.

  6. All other details will be agreed upon between the Artist and Sunrise Gallery and a Formal Exhibition Agreement will be signed.
